The short answer
Google handles more than nine in ten Dutch searches, approaching 97% on mobile (Statcounter). Position one takes 25–35% of clicks; position ten retains 2–3%. Organic search carries roughly 53% of all measurable web traffic (BrightEdge), and 96.55% of all pages receive zero Google traffic (Ahrefs). Since AI answers entered the results page, click-through to classic results falls from 15% to 8% when an AI Overview appears (Pew Research Center, 68,879 real searches).
Market share and devices
Statcounter puts Google above nine in ten Dutch searches, with mobile approaching 97%. Bing holds a visible desktop share, carried by Windows defaults — and it matters beyond its size, because Bing feeds Microsoft Copilot’s answers. For business audiences searching on desktop during office hours, that share deserves attention.
Where the clicks go
The CTR curve holds across the major studies: 1 takes 25–35%, 2 around 15%, 3 around 11%, and position 10 retains 2–3%. Moving from position eight to position three multiplies traffic roughly fourfold. Since AI Overviews, citation probability inside the answer runs from 58% at position one to 14% at position ten (Growth Memo, April 2026).
What this means for entering the Dutch market
Google.nl is the main stage, Dutch-language content is the entry ticket, and citability now sits alongside ranking as the second discipline. Foreign companies entering this market find a mature, English-friendly audience that still searches in Dutch for local services — covered on SEO for the Dutch market.
